Our Story
Henry & Mamie Armstrong

The Farm
Four generations of Armstrongs
Since those early days, four generations of Armstrongs have walked and worked and loved that land. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren have walked up and down the long rock driveway, searching for crystals, quartz, and other treasures. Many family members have enjoyed the fruit of Henry and Mamie’s annual garden of green beans, potatoes, corn, and melons. A special favorite was Mamie’s homemade hickory nut pie, provided by the many hickory trees on the property. Mamie’s heart was full on those summer days, watching her grandchildren catching frogs and crawdads from the creeks that flow through the farm. Hearing their laughter always brought her happiness. Then, as the summer sun started to dip below the horizon, everyone would gather around the bonfire, as the thousands of fireflies that made the farm their home began their own majestic light show.
Tragically, in 2014, the Armstrong family’s faith was shaken when Mamie was diagnosed with late stage Alzheimer’s disease. Their son, David, who lived in Missouri at the time, made the life-changing decision to move back home to take care of his ailing mother and elderly father. A few months later, David’s son, Nicholas, also made the fateful decision to help care for his grandparents. Sadly, on December 13, 2017, just two days shy of their 68th wedding anniversary, Mamie lost her well-fought battle with Alzheimer’s. Shortly after, Nicholas’ mother, at age 54 was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s and Primary Progressive Aphasia.
Determined to find a way to fight...

Determined to find a way to fight against the enemy attacking their family’s health, David and Nicholas began researching the importance of strengthening the body’s immune system. Dramatic increases in not only Alzheimer’s and dementia cases, but also Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, blood diseases, and the like seem to be indicating our autoimmune systems are confused and attacking what they were designed to protect. David and Nicholas asked themselves, “How much are all the artificially produced chemicals, enzymes, hormones, and genetically modified products we use and ingest to blame?”
In 2019, with a strong conviction to take responsibility for their family’s health and wellbeing, as well as a desire to return to the organic, all natural, proven ways of the not-so-distant past, David and Nicholas founded a USDA certified organic hemp farm on the Armstrong land.
When the global COVID-19 pandemic hit in early 2020, the timing for producing immune-boosting products seemed ideal for the new venture. But sadly, there was more tragedy in store for the Armstrong family. In February 2021, the family’s patriarch, Henry, succumbed to complications from the virus. He was 93.

Today, more passionate about their mission than every before, David and Nicholas are providing scientifically formulated, organic CBD products to individuals, and their pets, across the country. They feel especially blessed to be honoring the Armstrong name by making a positive difference to so many. With the warm, childhood memories of those late evening light shows still so present in his mind, Nicholas suggested “Firefly Farms Botanical Wonders” as the name of the farm. We think Henry and Mamie would be proud.
